(Your Life & Your Studies Panel):

Abby Cacho - Rising Senior at the University of Pennsylvania

RAPE CULTURE & THE CHANGING CULTURE OF SEXUAL ASSAULT (AFTERNOON)

Historically entrenched stereotypes about black women continue to contribute to the dangerous myths that they are “not rapable.” – African American Policy Forum

"25% of college women are sexually assaulted during their time on campus."

Facilitated by Christina Coleman  journalist, feminist and activist currently working as the Managing Editor of NewsOne.com, this conversation will be a no holds barred dialogue around sex in college; a music industry that promotes rape culture & how it plays out on college campuses; and what you need to do to protect yourself and your sisters.

Joining Christina Coleman:

Allison McGevna - Managing Editor of HelloBeautiful.com
Rachel Hislop - Digital Content Manager for Parkwood Entertainment

INTRO TO POP! I POWER, OPPRESSION & PRIvilege (AFTERNOON)

POP! Facilitated by UYS Social Justice Director & Columbia University Professor Zerandrian "Z" Morris, is a deeply reflective space where we will analyze our identities and their connection to larger society.  We will look at the different ways power is experienced in our society (from within, with and over others).  Through fun activities, we will have deep and reflective discussions about our experiences in relationship to social class, ability, race, gender, sexuality, religion, and other systems of privilege and oppression. We will walk away with a deeper understanding of #BlackGirlMagic.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5TH 2016 (For Seniors Only!)

MANAGING YOUR COINS in college!

Facilitated by Ashley Fox, Founder of Empify & Professionally Licensed Financial Leadership Coach,  this workshop will help girls forge a healthy relationship with money, and introduce them to the fundamental basics of money management.  So many young women during their freshman year make the mistake of opening lines of credit that leave them with not only student loan debt at the end of their four years of college, but also the often overwhelming burden of credit card debt!  A debt that could have been avoided with the proper financial knowledge as an incoming freshman. Our intention is to provide these seniors with a tangible understanding of money, credit, budgets, and overall finances in order for them to make well-informed decisions when it comes to their COINS!

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS & DATING RESPONSIBLY 101

Facilitated by Kevin Carr, author and dating expert, this session is an interactive conversation about dating on campus.  The workshop is designed to help young women make a well-informed transition to college by equipping them with practical tips and 'real talk' on how to avoid potentially harmful relationships and unnecessary attachments.  The heart of this session will clearly outline how the relationships they develop will directly impact their college experience.

"1 in 4 students will contract an STD during their time in college."

"60% of 'Acquaintance Rapes' on college campuses occur in casual or steady dating relationships."

THE NECESSARY ART OF SELF-CARE FOR BLACK GIRLS** (EARLY AFTERNOON)

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” – Audre Lorde

Facilitated by Certified Yoga Instructor "Yoga Racheal" Rae, we will introduce and initiate the regular (and critical) practice of self-care with our seniors with a focus on the following areas (mental & physical health/wellness):

  • Meditation (getting quiet & getting still)
  • Journaling
  • Art
  • Yoga
  • Exercise
  • Self-Preservation
  • Sisterhood & Intergenerational Relationships

**Part of THE NECESSARY ART OF SELF-CARE FOR BLACK GIRLS MAY ALSO TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 4TH.

A NIGHT OF #BLACKGIRLINSPIRATION: FOR SENIORS ONLY! DINNER (EVENING)

(A Keynote Conversation with #SheWoke Committee Memeber, Nakisha Lewis) - The For Seniors Only! Dinner in particular will advance the idea of magnifying the voices and presence of young black women in social, cultural, political and economic decision-making by exposing them to black women who work and thrive in these fields, through an intimate dinner experience.

This experience will give the seniors a very unique opportunity to connect and interact with some of the nation’s most influential women leaders who are:

  • growing businesses;
  • running social movements;
  • enriching and transforming communities;
  • leading government, education and the arts; and
  • revolutionizing media

Our intention is to create reliable mentoring relationships, community collaborations, and work experience opportunities for each young leader. This experience will also give them the ability to hone their professional interfacing.

A monetary scholarship will be awarded to two graduating high school seniors (entering college in August 2016) during the evening.
